Cleanliness, privacy, security, working 24/7 air conditioning, and decent internet are what I care about when I travel, and this hostel gets most of that right. The WiFi in my dorm was slower, probably because of where it was. The bar and pool are a nice bonus, and I had a couple of good meals there. I also left my trainers behind on the way to Siem Reap, and the staff kindly sent them to Onederz in Siem Reap. I wish I’d stayed at that hostel too. It’s a bit of a hotel-hostel mix, and I’d highly recommend it.

For a quick stop in Phenom Penh, this place worked well. The six-bed women’s dorm was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were helpful. I wouldn’t stay more than two nights, though. The area felt pretty grim and unsafe to me as a solo traveler in my late twenties. It also felt more like a hotel than a social hostel. The pool was nice, but crowded enough that finding a seat was difficult.

Getting around was easy, with the night market, local markets, and nightlife bars nearby. Onederz also has lots of activities, so it’s easy to join in and meet other travelers. We had a great two-night stay in a private room, which was clean and comfortable, and the facilities were really good. The staff were all incredibly kind and friendly, too. A downside was the noise after 11 PM. Some guests were loud, and the rooms don’t block much sound. Still, it’s a wonderful stay and good value for money.

The staff, management, and organization were perfect whenever I needed anything 💜🙏. I stayed in a six-bed women’s dorm, which was good, though it smelled a bit and faced the street, so there was some noise. The towels had a slight smell too and could use a wash at 80°C. At night they put a lemongrass aroma stove in the shared bathrooms, which was really lovely. I didn’t use the rooftop pool because it was too windy, but it looked great. The restaurant looked nice too, though I preferred eating on the street. The market is just around the corner, past the red-light district.

The hostel was a decent spot, and getting to bus transfers was easy from its central location. S21 is about a minute’s walk away, and the walk through Phnom Penh’s back streets was worthwhile. There are a lot of massage places nearby, so watch out for the ladies of the night. My six-bed dorm was fine, with good beds and room for backpacks. The food was good at the restaurant or reception. I just wish there’d been more of a place to socialize with other travelers. Siem Reap was much bigger and had more daily activities for meeting people. Safe travels, everyone.
