Sunshine Hotel

Staff were extremely nice and welcoming, and the neighborhood was quiet. But construction noise started inside the hotel at 9am, which was absurd! The AC was old and weak, and didn’t cool the room at all. Staff tried to fix it, but an unmaintained AC can only be helped so much. Cigarette smell clung to all the furniture, including the pillows and carpet. The window between the room and bathroom is a bad design choice, and the balcony had no chairs, so why have one? It’s in a neglected, undeveloped part of the city, between Riverside and BKK1, but a 20+ minute walk from either.

The room had cigarette burns all over, and the bedding smelled of cigarettes. The AC was useless. Staff tried fixing it, but it didn’t help. There’s also a strange, huge see-through window between the room and the shower/toilet that can’t be covered, so there’s no privacy if you aren’t staying alone. The neighborhood is quiet, but it’s over a 20 minute walk to anywhere nice to eat, stay, or explore, and it’s not a pleasant walk. This isn’t where you want to stay in Phnom Penh. Look for a place in BKK1 or Riverside.

The room was nice, and the staff were helpful and quite pleasant. I just wish I could have paid the extra nightly amount instead of putting down a $20 room deposit.

There’s a guard outside around the clock and a place to park a motorbike. The management is Chinese, while the Khmer staff who help customers are friendly and professional.
