Angkor Hotel

The food was tasty, and the pool was a nice place to unwind after exploring. Angkor Hotel also has clean, comfortable rooms and very friendly staff. It’s conveniently located in Siem Reap and felt like good value for the price.

The staff were nice, and the pool area is pleasant. Unfortunately, the hotel itself felt neglected and very old, with a musty smell throughout. It was so empty-feeling that I had to ask whether anyone else was staying there. The beds were uncomfortable, and the room AC wouldn't get cold. I changed rooms three times, then gave up in the middle of the night and moved to another hotel. I don't blame the staff for the building's condition. It's near the main tourist area and just off route 6, which is about the only other plus. There are much better hotels nearby for the same price.

The staff were lovely and tried to help us on the first night, which is the reason I'd give it two stars instead of one. The building has potential, and our room was large, but both were badly neglected. The room was filthy and the bathroom was worse. It could maybe reach three stars with a really thorough clean, but as it was, at best two stars. I wouldn't recommend staying here. I know the country is dealing with serious economic problems, but that doesn't excuse rooms being this dirty. The hotel we moved to the next day showed that.

The wooden interior gives this large, old place a classy, old-fashioned feel that I like. It's still a nice place to stay, even though breakfast was fairly average. There were eggs, soup, and other basics, but it felt more about quantity than quality. Both rooms we stayed in had safebox errors, and a few of the small lamps didn't work. A lot of hotels seem to struggle with maintenance lately, and I know it's a difficult business.
