Aunty's House & Uncle's House - Hostel

The two brothers who run Uncle’s House made the stay unforgettable. They’re warm, kind, full of life, and made me feel at home straight away. We shared stories, laughed, and made memories I’ll carry with me. They went beyond what I’d expect from hosts and felt more like friends. The place has its own charm too, relaxed and cozy with positive vibes. Staying here was one of my best travel experiences, and I can’t wait to return and see them again for more adventures.

I booked for Khmer New Year, but when I arrived they said they had no record of my reservation and didn’t work with the platform I’d used. They claimed to be full, then offered me a room for three times the original price. The posted price was right there in the middle of reception, which made it even more frustrating. The place was dirty and smelled bad, and they provided no bedding or toilet paper. They kept opening the room door to tell people to take their shoes off, even when I was heading to the dirty toilet to shower. That evening they came by a couple of times saying they’d forgotten to close bookings online and had overbooked, and that there would be more mattresses on the floor. I left after one overpriced night. This place is a joke. There’s a new hostel very close to Angkor Wat for the same price and much better quality.

For roughly $2 a night, the 12-bed mixed dorm was a bargain. There were only two of us for the whole two nights I stayed, so it felt almost like a private room. It has two bathrooms plus one for women, but no AC, just fans, and it can get quite warm at night. The hostel is down a quiet little alley near a market with fresh produce and lots of street food. You can park a motorcycle rented from outside, or rent a bicycle for $2 a day. Free lockers are at the check-in desk, but bring your own lock.

It’s a restful place, and the sleeping arrangements are much better now. Compared with 6 years ago, they’ve improved the service too: towels and toilet paper are included. See you next time.
