I spent four wonderful nights in the garden hut. This is a great homestay run by a Danish-Cambodian family, in a really quiet spot where you can enjoy the family and all the dogs. It’s outside the city and closer to the temples, a great option if that’s what you want. You can rent bicycles to reach the temples. Jana can also make breakfast or dinner, with exquisite dishes. When I had digestive problems, they looked after me with tea and boiled rice.

After long, hot days visiting the temples at Angkor Wat, we could come back to a peaceful place, away from the noise and lights in central Siem Reap. It’s very close to Angkor Wat, so it’s a great base for visiting the temples. Breakfast is included, with freshly baked Danish rolls from the host each morning. We stayed in the deluxe room, and the hospitality and luxury were amazing. The homestay is a beautiful colonial-style wooden house on pillars, run by a Danish/Cambodian family with three wonderful, hospitable children. When my friend had an upset stomach, Channa, the Cambodian wife, cared for her with healing ginger tea, and she felt better very quickly. They earned every one of the five stars I gave them. It was lovely to be able to stay in the upper room. Everything was clean and well maintained, the breakfast was great, and I enjoyed the good conversations. If you’re interested, you can learn a lot about local and foreign cultures here. The family were friendly and helpful. It felt close to Angkor Wat, which was nice for getting there early for sunrise, but far from noisy traffic, with a real nature feeling. I had a great time and will definitely come back.

We really enjoyed the three adorable, warm and loving kids, and it felt like coming home after a long day among Angkor’s awe-inspiring monuments. My friend and I had a memorable stay at Chana’s homestay, beautifully designed by co-owner Thomas and nestled in the woods. It’s conveniently placed for the Angkor archeological area, and away from the noise of the crowds, which makes it a great option for travelers looking for a unique local experience. Channa and Thomas were wonderful hosts. They shared useful tips about the area and helped arrange transport and guides. Thomas baked fresh bread for breakfast every day, and Channel is a great cook if you’d like Cambodian food. We had such a good time with Thomas, channa, Amanda, Anita and Anton.
