Golden Papaya Guesthouse

I stayed two nights, on 5 and 9 Jan, first in room 316 on the third floor, then in 117 on the first. Both rooms and bathrooms were spacious and clean, and water pressure was strong at the tap, shower, and bum gun. They provided toiletries, two bottles of mineral water, tea and coffee sachets, and a kettle. There's also free drinking water by reception, though it comes out very slowly. Not sure if that's to keep it from running out. The counter staff were welcoming and helpful. The young woman there helped with my suitcase at check-in and checkout, and they let guests leave luggage before or after checkout. One evening when I came back at 9 p.m., a woman who seemed to be the owner or manager gave me two bananas. It was a little funny, but I appreciated the gesture and felt they cared about my stay. One issue in both rooms was the loose shower fitting. When I raised it, it kept falling, so I couldn't shower standing upright without holding it. I also rented a good bicycle, but the rate was higher than at another place I used. They initially wanted to keep my passport for the rental, which I found completely unacceptable and inconvenient for 'only' a bicycle. They let me take it in the end, but a deposit would be a better way to address their concern. The location is central, near Pub Street, Old Market, Riverside Night Market, and Royal Garden. The property is in an alley, but it's wide enough for cars and Tuktuk. My stay was good, and the room was comfortable. At these affordable rates, it's good value if you mainly need somewhere to sleep after exploring.

A smooth, hassle-free check-in and checkout, and I rented a bike for three days for $7 and used the laundry service. The two college students at reception were humble, friendly, curious, and eager to help. Thanks for the hospitality. It's an excellent budget hotel, tucked on a dead-end road with no street noise or pollution, so I slept well. Pub Street, the riverside, Buddha temple, parks, and more are all within walking distance.

Big, clean, comfortable rooms, and the guesthouse is only a few minutes from the city center and Pub Street. Conveniently close, but without the noise. Really nice place.

We felt very welcome here. The staff were super friendly, the rooms were really clean, and the location was great. They can arrange transport to other places and rent bikes at affordable prices too. We'd happily recommend it! :)
