After nearly 30 visits to Siem Reap over the past 15 years, this was my first stay at JK RESIDENT HOTEL, and I’d happily return. I stayed three weeks and found the room spacious and comfortable, with air-conditioning and bathroom amenities. It was ready even though I arrived before the scheduled check-in time. Dana welcomed me at reception, and Jasmine later gave me useful advice about nearby facilities. When I asked late one evening where to buy fresh milk, Lisa kindly offered to go get some. Kosal looked after me well at the rooftop bar and coffee shop, and even offered to pick up artificial sweetener and brought it to my room. Panha was friendly and welcoming in the coffee shop bar, as was everyone I met on staff. I can’t recommend the place highly enough. It’ll be the first accommodation I ask about next time. If I could give ten stars, I would.

The water was the main issue for me: there was rust in it, so I had to fit a shower filter. I’ve found that pretty common in Cambodian hotels. Otherwise, the old Indochina charm and sturdy, aging building suited me well. The room had high ceilings and a nice finish, and staff were quick to handle my requests. I stayed for a month and a half and will come back. The pool area is beautiful, shaded all day and equipped with fans for hot weather. It’s a quiet street, with a good riverside view from the rooftop deck. The rooftop restaurant and bar also make a nice place to work away from street noise, and the downstairs cafe is surrounded by green plants.

We used the pool every day, a small but perfect spot for a dip or a few laps, and both massages were great. The rooms were clean, with comfortable beds and good air-conditioning. Breakfast and other meals at the rooftop restaurant came with a beautiful panoramic view. The food was good, with an egg station and a selection of fruits and juices. One evening, children stayed on the deck late, playing on phones and video games and taking chairs adults could have used for a nightcap. There was also a room of children above us jumping on beds after 9pm on both nights. I called the front desk, and they handled the problem.

The food and cocktails were delicious, and Liza was so sweet and helpful. She made us really good coffee and shakes. We liked the hotel and its location, and the staff were lovely and always ready to help. We’ll definitely come back.
