La Maison d'Angkor

The manager made us feel welcome and was generous with advice about restaurants and attractions. He called ahead to make bookings and even arranged a surprise for our anniversary dinner at a local restaurant. We’ve stayed in much more expensive hotels around the world, but few have given us this level of hospitality. We loved the relaxed feel and the friendly, attentive staff. There’s a French influence throughout, giving the place an elegant resort atmosphere. The grounds and buildings are well maintained, everything is clean, and the bathrooms are stylish and modern. It has a very different feel from the mega-hotels up the street, which may be newer but don’t offer what a small boutique hotel can. We had several afternoon and evening swims, often with the large pool to ourselves. I doubt a bigger hotel would have offered that. Breakfast by the pool was lovely, and the kitchen food was quite good. Some people worry that it’s out of town, but after experiencing the heat and dust in the centre, paying a driver an extra $1 to take us back to La Maison D’ Angkor was well worth it. The hotel felt like another world, a peaceful break from Siem Reap. Of all the places we stayed on our Thailand and Cambodia trip, this charming, well-run boutique hotel was our favourite. I’d enthusiastically recommend it to travellers looking for old-world character in a lovely garden setting.
