Oriental Siem Reap Hotel

Van and Don were excellent hosts. They saw to all our needs and made sure we were comfortable and happy, with Van going out of her way to make us feel at home. The hotel is beautiful, clean, quiet, comfortable, and luxurious. It's in a nice quiet part of Siem Reap, with awesome restaurants nearby and the right markets and pub street a short walk away.

Van, the manageress, was friendly and efficient, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. The rooms were large and clean, with comfortable beds. It was excellent value, I've paid much more for far worse. Despite what the description says, there isn't a restaurant here. There are plenty in the area, though, and each floor has a shared kitchen if you'd like to cook.

The owner was incredibly kind and even picked me up on her scooter to help me find my lost baggage. The rooms and beds are very big, and the location is good for getting to the city centre. Probably the BEST hotel I've ever been to, a pity I can't give it 10 stars.

The way the owner handled our disagreement left me feeling insulted and bullied. I booked through Expedia, and both the site and confirmation email said the amenities included a "free one-way airport transfer". We needed a ride to the airport, not a pickup. When I asked the girl at reception to arrange it, another guest made the same request. We were told free service meant pickup only, and we'd have to pay for the trip to the airport. I told her that not honoring the booking terms could lead to negative feedback. The owner, a white guy, rushed out angrily from the back room, insisted their policy covered pickup only despite the incorrect listing, and made it clear he didn't care about reviews. He finished by shouting "WHATEVER!!". I would've been okay with a simple apology for the discrepancy or misunderstanding. Instead, his confrontational, unprofessional attitude and poor problem-solving really shocked me. The room itself was clean, though it smelled mouldy when I first walked in. It had a spacious bathroom with no bathtub, and there was a nice living room outside the room. I liked the dark solid wood stairs and furniture. The price seemed reasonable, and you could rent a bike or book a ride or day trip at a competitive rate. It's centrally located, within walking distance of the Night Market and the Pub Street. This feels more like an apartment or guesthouse than a hotel, with the feel of a private home where shoes come off at the door. The 'lobby' was cluttered and quite dark, without the open, welcoming feeling of a typical lobby.
