One star. Definitely read the other reviews. We were only there because my mother-in-law booked it. There were cockroaches and mould everywhere. When we asked about the roaches, they gave us bug spray. They know about the problems but don’t seem to care. The spray drove heaps of cockroaches out of hiding, and after one night things kept getting worse. The last straw was finding bugs on the bed and pillows. We had planned to stay four days. They offered another room, but a quick look showed it was just as bad. At night there was constant noise from the cheap-looking Temu air conditioner, which had a broken direction blade. Cold air blew on just one bed, freezing the person sleeping there.

The staff were very helpful, friendly, and knew a lot about local attractions, restaurants, and transportation. My room was spacious and very clean, with a balcony looking over the pool and restaurant. There’s an elevator for reaching the upper floors. The restaurant food was good and reasonably priced, and the location was handy.

We stayed for business from January 24 to February 5, paying day by day as we had confirmed with reception on arrival. At first everything seemed fine. As Chinese New Year got closer, staff unexpectedly told us to change rooms because we were paying daily. We refused and asked for the manager. A man who said he was the manager was rude and insisted we move. With hotels hard to find in Siem Reap during Chinese New Year, we reluctantly agreed. One colleague spoke to reception later, and they let us keep the original room. A few days after that, another staff member again asked us to move. When I pointed out we hadn’t been told ahead of time, they had no real explanation. It was Friday again, so finding another hotel at short notice was even harder. Hospitality work can be challenging, especially in peak season, but guests should still be treated respectfully and kept informed. Poor management and unprofessional handling made the experience disappointing. A little courtesy and planning would have made a big difference.

For a budget traveller, the Tan Kang Angkor Hotel can be a good choice if you’re okay with the drawbacks. It’s good value and right in the city centre, but set back from the road, so there’s no traffic noise. Service staff were courteous and tried to address concerns. I had a clean, spacious deluxe room on the ground floor. Upper-floor rooms were much smaller, though they cost less than the deluxe rooms below. The beds were quite hard in all the rooms, and the smaller ones had no chairs. The pool area was pleasant, with comfortable outdoor lounges, a spa, and good attention to cleanliness. However, curfew times weren’t supervised, which was frustrating for guests in rooms beside the pool. The restaurant is open all day and late into the evening, but the food was generally just okay. Khmer dishes are well covered, while Western options and their quality could use attention. There are no hot showers, which was one reason for my lower rating, and the hotel wifi was hit and miss. If you need reliable internet, make sure you can use outside wifi services. My other complaint was the early morning cleaner playing loud music while working at 5.34 am, apparently unaware that higher-paying guests were sleeping nearby.

We booked three rooms, and every one had problems. Cockroaches scattered when I switched on the lights, several lights didn’t work, and the bathroom light kept flickering. None of the rooms had hot water, and all the toilet seats were broken. The AC units vibrated loudly and kept leaking. There are no elevators either, which is a pain if you have lots of luggage. From outside, I wouldn’t have guessed the inside would feel so dated. I rarely write reviews, but this stay was bad enough that I wanted to warn others. I should have listened to the reviews. Never again.
