Serendipity Beach Resort

The resort is just steps from the beach, with a veranda lounge, a nice pool, pretty trees, and chairs for relaxing. From the balcony you can see the ocean right in front of you, and the view was AMAZING! There was a nice shower too, and the bathroom curtain beside the tub worked electronically with a remote.

The breakfast was so bad that my wife and I went elsewhere to eat. The buffet had very little, the eggs were precooked and kept warm, and there was no milk for the coffee. It seemed aimed mainly at Asian guests. The room itself was large and well furnished, and our pool access was great. The modern bathroom had both a bathtub and shower. The bed, though, was hard and squeaky. Reception staff could speak and understand English, and service was very good. If you needed or wanted something done, they got right on it.

The only real plus was the location, near the ferry terminal and the beach. The shiny photos are misleading. The front desk staff had no manners, and at one point acted as if they didn't want us there. The rooms were large, but looked overdue for maintenance. The air conditioning didn't work, parts of the delicate interiors seemed broken, lizards were everywhere, and the door didn't seem secure. We didn't even dare try the complimentary breakfast before checking out. The road in front was filthy, and the price was far too high for such a pathetic place. I would never recommend it, and wouldn't waste money here.

We were kept awake by noise outside the hotel until the early hours, then it started again at 6am. Housekeepers outside our room woke us again at 7:15am. Breakfast was poor for Europeans, with little choice and low quality food surrounded by flies. The staff seemed disinterested. There were problems all over the room: the toilet leaked urine onto the floor, and the cracked shower floor looked bad and felt unsafe. After showering, water also leaked onto the bathroom floor. There were pink marks that looked like lipstick by the mirror, no WiFi in the room, a very poor TV signal, no wardrobe hangers, a tall light that didn't work, and a ceiling panel that had been removed and not replaced properly. There was no honeymoon setup, although I had added a note to the booking, and the towels were very poor quality. I worked with Agoda to seek a full refund for the first night. After several emails, it became clear that neither the hotel nor the regional manager wanted to offer compensation. Agoda stepped in and offered me a credit note for that night. Thanks, Agoda. This isn't a 4-star resort, 2 stars at best. The hotel is poor quality, and the staff, from the front line to the regional manager, didn't seem interested. The manager told me it had just been refurbished. I hope they get their money back. The town is a 15-mile square Chinese-run building site. Avoid it at every opportunity and visit the many other lovely places Cambodia has to offer.
