Kirirom Hillside Resort

A friendly team and good service, with a setting that feels close to nature. It was a great place for an adventure.

The rooms were filthy, with cockroach droppings in the building, dirt on the floor, a foul-smelling refrigerator, mold in the sink, and broken window locks. The 3 room Villa was outside the resort, and the fence was barely 1m high, maybe less. A child could get over it, so I worried about safety and how easily a robber could enter. My family and I ended up driving home instead of staying the night. The receptionist was very rude and treated us as if we were asking to stay for free. Customer service was terrible. We checked out right away, despite having paid the full deposit for 2 of the 3 bedrooms villa and 1 for 2 bedrooms villa. These broken things should be fixed before guests arrive. We asked for cookout preparation for our group of 6 across 3 rooms, got an unpleasant response and were quoted ridiculous charges. We paid anyway, but every single thing seemed to cost extra. At 21:15 we asked for rice. They said the restaurant was closed, although we’d been told it closed at 22:00. They blamed having fewer guests and tired chefs, which felt like a bad excuse. Two friends planned to come too, so around 20:30 we asked to book a room for them. They got lost and decided to head home, so at 21:00 we requested a cancellation. It was refused because the system was locked. What kind of system lets you book but locks cancellations? Come on, we aren't stupid. Horrible rooms and service, no sense of safety, and not worth the price. I would never consider staying here again, and can't recommend it.

It seemed odd that the system could accept a booking but not a cancellation. Come on, we aren't stupid. The room itself left little impression, and the bedsheets were old and worn. The bed didn't feel hotel grade. Hot water wasn't working, and there was barely enough water coming out to shower. The outdoor showers felt scary. The large balcony looked abandoned, with leaves all over the floor and a broken light. I spent almost an hour with my very young, underage kid waiting while staff went back and forth trying to fix the bulb. My first impression of how they managed such a large site was above average, but the stay itself wasn't good. That first visit put me off returning.

The grounds have always had lovely scenery, and the maintenance has finally brought them up to where they should be. Rooms have also been upgraded, including one with a private pool that I loved. It’s clear they’ve made a lot of improvements in response to guest feedback. I’ll definitely come back more often.
