Sono Belle Danyang

The location is fantastic, with free parking, a small water park, and restaurants, shops, games, and karaoke rooms downstairs. There’s also a great bakery with top quality goods and a big discount after 7pm. Danyang itself is lovely, a city of flowers beside a narrow lake, and easy to explore on foot, with paths across the street leading to the shore and others along the road. We spent a week in a family suite. It had a kitchenette with a good size fridge and a small 2-burner stovetop, plus a table and 4 chairs. The living room was spacious, with a large couch. The main bedroom had a half bathroom, there was another full bathroom by the entrance, and the second bedroom was ondol style. We had great views of the city and lake from the living room and balcony. This is one of Sono’s oldest hotels in Korea. As with other Sono properties we’ve stayed at, the rooms could use renovations and a refresh, but there’s plenty to like here.

The rooms are a great size, the hotel is big, the views are great, and the staff were nice enough. But the comfort issues made this a ridiculous stay. The heated floor left the room stuffy, and they wouldn’t give us an air conditioner remote. They told us to “open the door,” but the air quality was poor, so we didn’t want to. We had to turn it on manually and put up with the heat. We also asked for an extra pillow and it seemed like a huge request. Apparently the cheapest room didn’t qualify for another one. I pointed out it was just a pillow, and they eventually gave us one. It felt like they didn’t care about guest comfort because they know everyone will stay there since it’s the only hotel. This place is a joke.

The pool kept my kids entertained, though it wasn’t amazing. I booked a package with two free pool passes. The location in Danyang is nice, and having restaurants there is handy, but they all close around 7-8. There’s a convenience store, at least. For the price, it was a good choice for a trip.

The view from the front is spectacular, looking toward a bend in the river. There’s a lot on site too, including restaurants, a convenience store, a Cafe, a chicken shop, and an arcade. The main downside is the price, and it’s far from the market and city center. It’s an aging 4-star resort. The building is nice but old, with physical keys on the doors and dated restroom hardware.
