Hotel Morning Calm

A good hotel, though the breakfast selection is small.

I stayed here on an overseas business trip. There are no single rooms. A standard room has one double bed and sleeps up to two, with a two-seater sofa and table as well. The bed was made meticulously, and the room was well supplied for two: hand, bath, and foot towels; disposable slippers; hangers; toothbrushes; razors; gel; and coffee. The toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and lotion, come in small bottles of about 50 ml and are replaced daily. Bar soap is provided for handwashing, and the toothbrushes and other items are replenished as they’re used. Four complimentary bottles of mineral water were left each day. There’s also a kettle and humidifier. The room lights come on when you insert the room card, except for the entrance and refrigerator. There don’t seem to be any outlets that stay powered around the clock. By the bed are two SE-type 220V outlets. The TV is about 40 inches, easy to watch from bed, and has YouTube and Hulu. The refrigerator is quite small because it holds a paid beer and snack set for 10,000 won, payable by credit card. It can just fit 500 ml plastic bottles upright, with room for eight in total, including the free water. There’s no laundry service, though a coin laundry is nearby. Breakfast is free, but leaving food uneaten incurs a 10,000 won fine. The food included toast, white rice, kimchi, namul, seaweed, raw eggs, ham, jjigae, and cereal, possibly cornflakes. You can cook the eggs on a hot plate, and there’s a toaster. Drinks are water, milk, and orange juice. Restaurants around the hotel serve yakiniku and jeon, and across the street there are noodle and hot pot places. I ordered by pointing at the menu, and payment seemed to be card only. Burger King and Subway are nearby too, along with a supermarket and convenience store. Daiso is about a three-minute walk away, which was really handy.

The place is clean, and the staff are friendly. The underground parking lot could use more lighting and a proper cleaning, though.

I really didn’t like it. It was so bad.
