Gangneung (Jeongdongjin) Oasis

You can get a glimpse of the Sun Cruise Resort from an ocean view room. The owner is friendly, but the price and service honestly don’t match up. It’s set up more like a traditional inn than a motel, with a door at the entrance. They said there were no rooms elsewhere because all the roads to Gangwon-do were jammed today, so there wasn’t really another option. Even so, I wouldn’t choose this place if I had a choice.

I couldn’t book ahead for the weekend and was having trouble finding anywhere to stay, but luckily I got a room here. I slept well and made it to Jeongdongjin in under five minutes at dawn. It’s at the crossroads between Geumjin Beach and Jeongdongjin.

We stayed in mid-August, and it was quiet and blissful, with only us and a couple of other rooms occupied. The hotel owner brought us delicious watermelon and boiled eggs.

The room was in good condition and felt fair for the price. The beach with food options takes a bit of walking to reach.
