Weekenders - Hostel

The owner and staff were friendly, and I’d definitely come back. We stayed two nights in this hostel in Gangneung’s old town. It’s been renovated nicely, and both the room and bathroom were amazingly clean.

The staff made us feel at home from check-in, and the guesthouse itself is charming. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the station, with restaurants, cafés, and the traditional market all around. The rooms are clean and tidy. Highly recommended!

I felt right at home here and met some good friends. The owners have made it a relaxed, comfortable place to unwind.

I’m in Gangneung every week for work, and to me this is the worst. For the price, the facilities are disappointing. The room has three slippers, for some reason, but I wish there were more towels. There’s plenty of public parking nearby. There’s no soundproofing at all, couples aren’t allowed, and there’s an 11:30 PM curfew. The bathroom is outside the room. There’s just one men’s bathroom on the first floor, so you have to go downstairs, while the second floor has two showers. Breakfast is between 8 and 9 AM, with no set time. The room is small, with only one bed and nothing else. There are just two hangers, so luggage has to stay on the floor. It’s only suitable for solo travelers looking for a quiet retreat. Marcus Hostel and Barhan Hotel nearby are much more satisfactory. I’ve stayed at both several times.
