Avon Hotel

There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance, and getting around is easy: the bus terminal is right next door and taxis stop just outside. The hotel itself is good, though the beds felt hard to me. The rooms also seemed to stay around 75 to 80 degrees F. They provide fans and let you open the window, but neither did much to cool things down.

We stayed about 18 days, and three nights in our suite had cigarette smoke coming through the air system. It happened at night, on weekends when weddings were being held and guests were partying and smoking in their rooms. Smoke seemed to travel in from our floor or an adjacent one. The circulation system is a serious problem, possibly because the building is old. The staff couldn't fix it and said this was normal, even in five-star hotels. Our infant was exposed to a lot of smoke, so unfortunately I can't recommend the place. Apart from that issue, it's a solid mid-range hotel.

The room was fairly large, but it didn't feel efficiently set up, and the surroundings weren't very appealing. The mattress was too soft, so even small movements disturbed our sleep. I also noticed the cleaners left room doors open after they were done. Still, it was very cheap, and the bus terminal is right beside the hotel. That's why I gave it four stars.

I spent almost a month here and really liked the staff and cleaners. The room looked nice and felt new, and after two weeks I was moved to a much bigger one. That was great with all the luggage I had. Savills hotel is in a handy spot for the bus station and taxis. Breakfast in the restaurant was enjoyable. I think I'll always remember the waffle and cranberry sauce. I also liked sitting outside, the atmosphere, and the music in the evenings, especially during happy hour. I'd recommend it to both expats and locals.
