The location is really good, and it’s a solid, cheap place to stay in gyeongju. The breakfast is basic, but it’s nice that they offer it. It was a pretty standard hostel experience otherwise, with the downside that you have to pay for most amenities.

The rooms are roomy and have private bathrooms, but they only lock from the inside and there are no room keys, so you’ll need to secure your stuff in the in-room cabinets when you leave. The manager helped us put together a fantastic itinerary, and the hostel is very close to the local train station, though the Korea Rail station is quite far from town. It felt a little expensive for the fairly average quality, but central Gyeongju has so few choices that it may still be a reasonable deal. The place seems geared more toward Korean-speaking guests, and the manager’s English may be limited. My partner did most of the talking in Korean. A few of the assistant managers seemed less helpful and a bit grumpy. If you can manage the language barrier, I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The rooms could be a bit cleaner, but the staff were friendly. Judging by the owner’s photos, he’s travelled everywhere! There’s a good-sized common area for eating, drinking, and meeting people. Nearby bars mostly closed early during chuseok, so we used the 7/11 across the road. The night bicycle tour was really good for seeing the historic sites, though you’ll need a translator. The hostel is also close to lots of shops and restaurants in Gyeongju, with a bus stop right next door for getting to the attractions.

The owner was very welcoming and helpful, and breakfast was enough to last until lunch. The building is old but clean. It’s a good deal for a minimalist traveller, near Gyeongju Station and downtown, with Anapji Pond and the observatory within walking distance. The address was confusing at first. It’s along the road from Gyeongju Train Station toward Bunhwangsa, a little tucked away, but the signs and Google Maps helped a bit. I arrived without expectations and enjoyed my stay.

Gyeongju station is just a 3-minute walk, and the buses for Bulguksa temple and Seokguram Grotto stop across the street, by a 7eleven. I spent three nights here in a four-person room on the female floor for only 18000won, with breakfast in the lobby included. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. The floor heating made the room really hot, though, so open the window unless you want to sweat. I met lots of lovely people, and the owner looks after solo travellers and helps them get to know each other, Korean style, over beer and soju. The owners are really nice and helpful if you need anything. Enjoy :)
