Hotel Air City Jeju

The front desk staff were really rude. I politely asked if early check-in was possible, and the man just shouted at me. When I got to the room, there were no clean towels, and the dirty ones had been left in the bathroom.

The room itself was fine, but the lack of amenities was awful. There wasn't even a toothbrush, toothpaste, or hairbrush, just two bottles of water in the fridge. I'd expected more and hadn't brought my own things, so, ugh. I think they may do this so guests buy them at the convenience store on the first floor, which maybe the owner has a franchise in. Terrible.

I've stayed in motels with better service. The comforter and curtains were torn, and there was no coffee or tea in the room or any toiletries provided. Sure, those things are aesthetics and luxuries, but you'd expect better from a hotel of this stature.

The room sizes are misleading. They advertise deluxe double rooms with balconies as sold out, while selling those same rooms as regular superior doubles. At check-in they tell you all superior doubles have balconies, but that balcony is counted in the room size, so the rooms are tiny. I'd avoid booking a superior double. They face a tall building with no view; the back side at least has an open view. The most irritating part of my stay was the sensor light by the entrance and bathroom. It came on every time someone went to the bathroom. If you and your partner don't get up in the night, I guess it's fine. I asked maintenance to turn it off temporarily, but they couldn't. The hallways and elevators had no air conditioning because it supposedly wasn't hot enough yet, despite it being the end of June, with buses and restaurants running theirs. Housekeeping asked if it was okay to skip cleaning the room and just swap the towels. The breakfast wasn't worth much of a fee either. They only had scrambled eggs, mixed with some kind of cream sauce, and no other protein. The rest was basic: coffee, milk, rice, soup, and toast. There are cheaper, better options just a few steps away. It looks okay from the outside, being 17 stories high, but there isn't much inside. No room coffee, no sofa, and few of the usual complimentary amenities, with most things available only for purchase. That's not a deal breaker, but it doesn't feel like what a four-star hotel should offer. It seems more like a 2.5-star place, stingy and missing a lot. Odd that it got a four-star grading.
