Jeju Sun Hotel & Casino

The bellhop at the front desk was the standout for me. I had five bags and he helped arrange a taxi to the airport, then loaded and handled my luggage. I’m very grateful, and I’ll be back soon. The stay at Sun Hotel and Casino was really good. Check-in was quick and easy, the room was comfortable with a massive king bed, and the clean bathroom had excellent hot water. The casino downstairs was small but fun, with a good roulette table and a decent slot selection. I just wish they had Huff and Puff or Bull Rush machines. All the staff were friendly. 10/10 experience.

The location worked well for me, with plenty of bars and restaurants around, easy access from the airport, and a convenient base for getting around the island. Breakfast was one of the highlights: lots to choose from, including a Western cooked breakfast, continental options, dumplings, noodles and soup. The hotel also has karaoke, a sports bar, golf simulator, gym and casino. My room looked nice and was spacious, and it felt like decent value overall. Three stars feels a little harsh, but four seems too generous. This definitely doesn’t feel like a five-star hotel anymore, though maybe it once did. There were a few things that let the room down. The listing showed both a hot tub and a bath, but I only had a bath. I didn’t really want a hot tub, so it wasn’t a big deal for me, though others might be more disappointed. There was a red sauce-like food stain on the bedside table, which I cleaned, a suspicious white splash mark on the headboard, and a hard spot of burned or melted plastic on the carpet. Room service was disappointing and expensive. I asked several times for mayonnaise for my fries and was told no without any explanation, even after offering to pay extra. The room service guy came across as rude, and at one point he shouted at me. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was having a bad day. The free bathroom cleaning products felt cheap and watered down, worse than I’ve had in some three-star hotels. Some fixtures also seemed dated. A master switch to turn off all the lights before bed would have helped, since the lights were scattered around the room and had to be switched off one by one.

The main road location is handy, and it’s only about 5000 won by cab from the airport. The room and bathroom were reasonably good, and there’s a free spa. A cab to the biggest and best casino in Jeju, at Hotel Hyatt, costs around won 5000. Don’t forget to get your membership card if you’re going to play there.

The lobby looks luxurious, but once inside, the hotel feels old and not elegant at all. The air conditioning didn’t work, and our room was unbearably hot. Nobody even offered us fans or anything. The casino shuts at 22:00, which sounds like a joke, and the sports bar looks like any arcade bar in Korea. It doesn’t fit the hotel’s vibe and feels unnecessary. This is a 3 star hotel. Calling it 5 star makes me wonder who they paid.
