Joy Hotel

I was on a budget and spent most of my time out, but a clean, comfortable place matters for sleep and comfort as well as cost. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel even for one night. Pay a little more for somewhere clean and comfortable. We arrived late, and the man at the counter didn’t speak English, so we had to use a translation app. The reception area, which is the face of the hotel, was disgusting, unclean, full of bugs, and smelled bad. The elevator and corridor were dirty and smelled bad too. In the room, I found the inside lock was broken, so I went back to reception after only 5-10 minutes, without even sitting down, and decided to ask for my money back and leave for another hotel. Communication was difficult again. When I said I only spoke English, he told me, “You are in Korea, no English!” He refused to refund anything when I explained the broken lock, so I said I’d call the police because keeping my money was stealing. After a lot of back and forth, he returned the money for the remaining nights but kept the first night’s payment, so unfortunately I had to sleep there. The bed was very hard, the sheets smelled awful, dirt had built up along the room’s edges, and some lights were burned out. I gave the hotel one star and wish I could rate it below zero.

The hygiene was terrible and the service was awful. This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and they should stop doing business. Sleeping on the street is free, so stay here if you want to waste money sleeping indoors. There should be someone at the front desk at all times. Check reviews on Yanolja or Yeogi Eottae before you book.

The location is the one good thing. I came because I heard there was a PC, but the Windows and graphics card drivers are five years old, so none of the games work. PC bang software is installed and version upgrades are blocked. The bedding is heavily stained, too.

The hotel sign doesn’t mean much when the place is this unsanitary. The facilities are old and aren’t maintained or cleaned properly. The restaurant is especially unpleasant and dirty, and the breakfast is terrible.
