Mir Guesthouse

The common spaces were a real highlight for me: nicely designed, sociable, and kept in great shape. The whole place had a relaxed, welcoming feel for solo travelers, and I felt safe throughout my stay. Staff were especially helpful, offering recommendations and help with daily plans and checking that guests were comfortable. Getting around was easy. It’s close to bus stops, Jeju Station, shops, the waterfront, and not far from the airport. There’s no elevator, though I managed fine with lighter luggage. The volcanic-rock-inspired exterior makes the building easy to spot among its neighbors. Inside, the entrance and lobby were clean and inviting, and check-in went quickly. The staff were warm, attentive, and spoke English fluently. My dorm room was clean and nicely prepared, with details matching the guesthouse’s modern theme. The beds were comfortable, and towels, toiletries, a hairdryer, water, and breakfast were provided. The upper bunk could use some changes: the ceiling was low, the curtain was partly blocked, and there was no railing on one side. That made it awkward and a little uncomfortable. The power outlets by the bed also didn’t work reliably during my stay. The shared bathrooms were clean, aired out well, and had enough supplies. The water pressure and temperature stayed consistent. One shower-door lock was rusty and hard to open, but otherwise the floor’s facilities were adequate and well maintained.

I’ve stayed at Mir Guesthouse four times now, I think, and keep coming back whenever I’m in Jeju. The neighborhood is beautiful, with lovely cafés for all sorts of tastes and lots of tasty, inexpensive food. It’s a great first feel for the island. The place feels like my “home” in Jeju. The staff are always kind and polite, and there’s a special atmosphere that makes it easy to chat and make friends. That doesn’t happen for me often elsewhere. People naturally end up gathering together. Everything is spotless, thanks to the hard-working morning cleaning team. And Peter, the owner of this beautiful, unusual building, makes delicious egg sandwiches each morning. I’m not usually keen on getting up early, but I do here because I don’t want to miss breakfast. It’s also a great chance to meet new people each day, since everyone gathers then. No need to pack toiletries either, they provide the essentials, even toothpaste. I’d forgotten mine this time and was very grateful. When the weather’s good, they also have “movie night,” which I think is fantastic. I can’t recommend Mir Guesthouse enough. It’s the kind of place that stays with you.

The building has a quirky design inspired by the nearby dragon rock. It’s pretty basic, but comfortable, quiet, and friendly, with helpful staff. We enjoyed our visit.

The guesthouse was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms, though, felt cramped, with not much privacy around the shared bunks. I was in the top bunk and kept knocking my head against the low ceiling, which got frustrating. There’s no washer at the property. After I got caught in the rain, I had to walk about 10 minutes to a laundromat to clean my clothes. Laundry facilities here would be a useful addition. It’s a decent clean, budget-friendly option, but bear those issues in mind for a longer stay.
