Ocean Grand Hotel

At 2:40 pm, I was soaked from the unusually heavy rain and waiting to check into the spa suite with my small child. The receptionist seemed completely uninterested. When I asked if we could check in, he told me to sit down and said check-in was at 3. I asked him to check with Housekeeping to see if the room was ready, but he just said it wasn’t. Checkout is at 11, so I’m left wondering if the hotel has only one cleaner or if there’s a long lunch break, as seems common in Korea and China. I’m still hoping the ocean view matches the photos, but this has been a real letdown for such an expensive room.

For 60 CAD a night, I found this cheap and good value, especially for the view. We had a front-facing beach view with a balcony, and the view was the standout, with sunrise and sunset as a bonus. The room was a little aged but clean, including the balcony, and the small bathroom was very clean too. The front desk guy seemed nice despite his limited English, and greeted us whenever he saw us. The bad comments didn’t apply to my stay. If you’re a simple, easygoing traveler, this place works well, though there’s nothing fancy.

The beach is right across from the building, with restaurants nearby, so the location is nice. The room felt dated, had some mold, and wasn’t very soundproof. There was no shower curtain, and they refused to provide one. Parking was limited and a bit tight.

Don’t book this hotel, you’ll regret it. The bathroom and toilet were a mess: broken tiles, rusty hinges, a partly broken shower tray, and water running from the tray into the sink area. No surprise there are signs warning about the slippery floor. The furniture and interior are old, and I had to ask for the TV remote, which didn’t work when it finally arrived. The staff attitude was pathetic. The reviews are completely true. Don’t!!!
