Jeonju raon hanok kuljam

Really clean, and I liked the heated floor. It was an authentic hanok stay, sleeping on floor mats. My room had a half bath inside, and dining options and a nearby rooftop bar were walkable.

A cute little travel lodge, but there was no service to speak of and nobody around to ask for help. The futon was unbelievably uncomfortable, we got just two small towels per person, breakfast was almost nonexistent, and there was no hot water facility. I won't be back.

Luan clearly takes pride in his home and cares about guests' comfort. The cafe upstairs overlooks the village, and from 9 to 10AM he served us a simple breakfast of freshly sliced fruit, toast, raspberry jam, an excellent americano, and green tea. Raon Hanok Khuljam is a great place to stay while visiting Jeonju Hanok Village. It helps to know the house customs. Shoes stay outside under the wooden porch, exposed to the weather, and you take them off anywhere there's a raised platform. I mistakenly wore mine into the back kitchen, thinking the rule only applied to sleeping rooms, and Luan, who was cleaning a nearby room, quickly called out, “Shoes off!” If you're unsure, ask instead of assuming. The kitchen has a kettle, microwave, and hot and cold water dispenser. In colder months, the floor is pleasantly warmed by the traditional Ondol system. The rooms are small; four people can fit, though it might be tight. We were given four absorbent, plush hand towels, which worked fine for us, but bring your own if you need a large bath towel. The traditional Hanok bedding is a very thin futon mat. In my sixties with a bad back, I had trouble sleeping on it. Luan kindly gave me another mat, but it was still hard for me. If you're younger and used to sleeping in a tent, you should be fine. I highly recommend the stay for experiencing Korean traditions and culture, and for the excellent simple breakfast.

The cafe upstairs is beautiful, with amazing views over the hanok village from the second floor. The owner was friendly and very kind, and his excellent English was a real help. I stayed for two nights, and the water pressure was great and the AC strong. Breakfast was included and simple. Coffee and toast are enough for me in the morning. The center of the village is only 2-5 minutes away. If you're after a traditional hanok sleeping experience, I really recommend this place. I do wish I'd visited in winter to try the heated floors!
