Hanok Hotel Youngsanjae

We stayed here as a group on the way from Seoul to JeJu and loved the atmosphere and traditional design. Sitting on the patio playing games while listening to the birds and cicadas was a highlight. It is rather secluded, though, and there aren’t many restaurants nearby.

The grounds were beautiful, and the Korean-inspired old-style buildings made for great photos. Try getting up early to see the sun rise over the distant mountain ranges. We had a room for six and were very comfortable in the house they provided. The surrounding area is used as an agricultural learning center for young children, which also makes it a lovely place for a morning walk. Breakfast was delicious Korean food, with nothing I could fault.

The whole complex is gorgeous, so I’d suggest getting there early enough to take it in. Breakfast was included and delicious, and I’d happily stay again. The hanok-style rooms have lovely wooden furniture and all the modern basics: a Dolce Gusto machine, kettle, tea, a nice bathroom, air purifiers, underfloor heating, air conditioning, and plenty of sockets. My father-in-law found the low bed very comfortable. My husband and I slept on the Korean floor mattress. I have occasional back problems, so it hurt a little, but I still slept well and he slept like a dream.

This is set in a quiet agricultural and park area, and having a car is best for getting there. Beyond the rooms and breakfast restaurant, there wasn’t any other service during our stay. The staff were great, though, and the rooms are spacious, with what amounts to three small rooms, adjustable ondol, air conditioning, and heating. If you like Hanok or Ryokan style, you may enjoy it.
