Dammora Resort

We were glad to have a quiet place to sleep before continuing our ride the next day, since there wasn’t much nearby to see. Kitty and I were cycling anti-clockwise around Jeju Island on the fantasy bike path, and had chosen Dammora Resort because it seemed conveniently placed for a visit to the Hello Kitty place near the center of the island. The area was much quieter than we expected, with few tourist spots within walking distance for shopping or anything else. Our room was in a separate building from reception, which was a bit inconvenient, but there was a lift to the third floor. The room was simple and comfortable, with a balcony. Nearby eateries and the convenience shop were closed, so we had to ride farther to find a BBQ restaurant for dinner. It’s fine for a basic stay if you’re exploring the island. Amenities are limited, and the lack of food options nearby is a drawback. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone looking for something luxurious.

The friendly staff and breakfast were good value, and the building, though a little old, was clean. I picked somewhere near Sambangsan Mountain to watch the New Year’s sunrise, with a reasonable price as my main criterion. Breakfast was included, and in winter I couldn’t even check where the pool was. There’s a convenience store on site, but no one staffs it, so getting alcohol is inconvenient. For the price, breakfast was very satisfying. Since it was January 1st, though, I’d hoped for tteokguk (rice cake soup), and that felt a little lacking. I was in Room 1 on the third floor, and wind hitting the wall made noise all night, so I couldn’t sleep well. If you get assigned a room, I’d recommend asking for one on the inside.

There are good restaurants and places to visit, including Osulloc, within about 10 minutes, which is a nice bonus. For a trip to Sanbangsan, the value and facilities make this a place I’d recommend. Dammoa has a laundry room, plus a convenience store, restaurant, chicken place, and self-service ramen corner open late, so it’s easy to find something nearby. The building is old, and mold on spots like the bathroom ceiling seems hard to avoid. That was the one disappointing thing.
