J-cube homestay n pension opened in December 2015, and the new building feels like a small luxury hotel. Each room has a large single-pane glass window, with views of the ocean, Hallasan, Songaksan, and islands including Gapado, Hyeongjeseom, and Marado, Korea’s southernmost island. From inside, you can take in the distinctive stone walls of Jeju homes and look across the fishing village of Daepyeong-Ri. There are complimentary drinks in the first-floor café, including brewed coffee and Pu-erh tea from Yunnan Province in China. J-cube chief manager James made the tea himself.

The view is refreshing, and Gunsan Oreum and Park Su-gijeong are lovely places to walk for exercise. The building seems to be prefabricated, though, and rain makes it incredibly noisy. I could hear people talking in the next room, too. The bathroom smelled awful, and weak water pressure made it hard to get a proper hot shower.

Getting there without a car isn’t easy, but the stay itself was really comfortable. The owner was incredibly kind, everything was clean, and the beds and bedding felt great. Towels were clean, and they even left tangerines as a little extra. Heating, hot water, a microwave, an electric kettle, and a hair dryer were all provided. For the price, this place is hard to beat.

The view from the third floor is amazing, so I’d recommend booking there. The owner was friendly and the room was very clean. There’s no bathtub, but hot water is available all day, and the toilet has a bidet. You can adjust the heating, and the room has dishes, plates, pots, a rice cooker, a microwave, and a fridge-freezer. One annoying gap: there’s cookware but no cutlery.

Not sure why this place gets such good reviews. The bedding and pillows smelled, maybe because they aren’t washed often. You can’t see outside properly because the window glass isn’t sealed. I also had to plug in the refrigerator myself because all its cords were left disconnected. Water pressure got really weak when someone was using it in another room. And the bathroom lighting or layout seems off, my face was in shadow when I tried to look in the mirror.
