The State Sunyu

The hotel was very neat, and the room was great, but it was so dark you couldn’t work or read a book. The buffet on the 2nd floor didn’t have much variety, though the food was very nice. At 27,000 won, it was alright. There’s a very cool park by the river a few blocks away, but the hotel is inside the city, so the view isn’t the best.

The floor lobby had a relaxing smell, and you need a key card to go up to the rooms. Service was good overall, but we couldn’t bolt our room door from the inside, so we just used the chain lock.

The subway station is right by the hotel entrance, but tourist attractions are quite far away. My 11th-floor room had a nice view and was fairly clean. Still, after my nine-night stay, I stripped the bed before leaving, as I always do to make things easier for the housekeepers, and found two huge yellow stains. It’s disgusting to think I slept on those for nine nights! Housekeeping wasn’t great: they just made the bed and changed the towels, without cleaning. The hotel seems mainly for Koreans, and the staff speak very little English. The room service menu is all in Korean, and breakfast was good but didn’t have many Western options. I don’t think I’ll stay there again.

The location is handy, near Seonyudo subway train station, with grocery stores and places to eat close by. The hotel is clean and quiet. No early check-in, though. You have to pay extra to get in before 3pm. The bathroom shower was a bit of a challenge because water ended up everywhere.
