Hotel JCS Yeosu

My first stay was in June, booked through Hotels.com, and it was great. I got to choose a sunrise or sunset view, and the ocean view from the room was beautiful. I came back in November and booked on the hotel’s own website. This time the room was on the 5th floor, facing the 4th-floor rooftop with red paintings. The site says all guest rooms are ocean view, and there is ocean ahead, but the huge rooftop blocked the balcony view, and I couldn’t access it. At night I couldn’t see the ocean or sky because of the rooftop and the lights on it and the balcony, which I couldn’t control. That night sea view is a big reason to stay in Yeosu. Reception apologized and said only 5th-floor rooms were available, and those were all booked out. I understand that, but I hadn’t expected a worse room when booking directly online. Silly me. There were three of us, and we booked a triple room, but there were only two bath towels and two bottles of water. When we asked for another towel and water, the receptionist said we should have requested them while booking online. He said they’d give us one towel this time, but couldn’t provide extra water because it wasn’t supplied according to the number of guests. I would have asked if the website had made that clear. I should have known it was only a 3.5-star hotel, my bad. I could also constantly hear guests nearby stomping around. My advice to other travelers: don’t book on their website, make requests when you book online rather than after you arrive, and if there are three or four of you, choose a double room instead of a triple, which seems to be on the 5th floor. Try to avoid the 5th floor, especially during busy periods, when you may get one of these rooftop-view rooms.

We booked this for our honeymoon, and the place was so disorganized it was embarrassing. We made a dinner reservation at 10 a.m., then at 4 p.m. that day they said they didn’t have enough food and offered just three kinds of pasta. We went ahead anyway, but the aglio olio I ordered came with cheese on it, even though I’m from Italy and allergic to cheese. The staff were friendly and tried to help, but management seemed clueless about running a 5-star hotel. They also charged $20 to use the swimming pool, what a joke. Nobody spoke English, either. Luckily my wife is Korean, because otherwise communication would’ve been impossible. Avoid this place and take your money somewhere else.

The views here are beautiful, and you can take impressive photos of both sunrise and sunset. Best hotel in Yoesu!
