Tarlan Hotel

The rooms and the place overall were very dirty and smelled bad. The blankets and towels weren't properly washed, the bathroom fan didn't work, and one of the two folding beds had a filthy mattress with springs sticking out. They still had the nerve to ask for 5,000 tenge for it. We booked two rooms on 28.07.2025, paid 50% upfront, and told them we'd arrive at night on 30.07.2025 with children. We had booked for the full three days, so why did we pay half in advance? When we arrived, neither room was ready, and we had to wait 30-40 minutes while already tired. We paid the remaining half right away. No one had told us the bedspread cost extra. When we called, they said they'd written about the fee on WhatsApp. They should have called to tell us directly. The receptionists were incompetent and rude, and one person inside didn't greet us at all. On the day we arrived, one receptionist said she'd make an exception and let us use it free until that day, then said it would be 2,000 tenge per bedspread. We agreed, but two days later she denied saying that. The next day another receptionist demanded 5,000 tenge and told us to leave if we didn't like it. Who was she to tell us to leave? The staff were irresponsible and rude, like people picked up off the street. It's a shame.

The rooms are small, and the sound carries so badly that getting proper rest or a good night's sleep is impossible.

The laundry service was a real plus: it was inexpensive, the clothes came back neatly folded just a few hours later. The hotel itself was good and reasonably priced, though there was a slight sewage smell from our shower. Also, Google Maps has the wrong location. It's about 1.5 km farther down the road, by a large red HOTEL sign.

A market across the street sells everything from food to clothes, and Beluga restaurant is close by, with reasonable prices and a 10% discount. The hotel feels more like a guesthouse, with a separate kitchen that has all the amenities. Staff were polite and ready to explain things or help, and my room was cleaned each morning. I stayed in December and, since I get cold easily, I turned on the air conditioning. Some rooms have windows and others don't. The main downside is that it's right along the road.
