The staff were really nice and helpful, and breakfast had enough choice with good food. It’s a good deal for the money, with a central spot that puts the most popular attractions about 20 minutes away. Our room felt cozy and roomy, though some appliances and furniture could use replacing. There’s also free access to the sauna and gym. We had a nice stay and would recommend it.

The room is large for what it costs, and the toilet and vanity mirror were nice. Breakfast was basic, but the location is good. Of all the hotels we stayed at in Almaty, this one had the best shower head. The bathroom floor, though, needs new tiles. They’re very old and stained, so it didn’t feel clean. There was also noise from road repairs nearby while we were there.

We found the service and facilities much closer to a one star stay than the advertised three stars. Our room’s refrigerator never worked, even after I reported it twice. The toiletries were just 5 ml each of shampoo and shower gel, which might not even be enough for one person. More can be requested, but they weren’t provided proactively or consistently, so bring your own if you’re sharing a room. Each floor does have a water dispenser, which is handy, and I’d bring a reusable bottle. Arriving after midnight was frustrating. No one was at reception, and repeated ringing of the bell got no response. After a long trip, that felt unsettling. Staff speak very little English, so basic Russian or a translator app would help. Hot water was unreliable, which makes this a poor choice for families with children. There weren’t any vegetarian options at breakfast. The coffee was excellent, but we had to pay for it even though it was served during breakfast hours. Hotel Alma may suit solo or budget travelers who are fine with very basic service and the language difficulties. Families, vegetarians, and guests expecting international-standard facilities may want to look elsewhere.

The hotel is inexpensive, and the area felt safe, with plenty to do nearby. Staff were friendly, and there’s a gym, pool, and sauna.
