Everything outside the room felt worn and run down, and it seemed like quite a few transient workers were staying long-term. My room and bathroom, though, were clean and neat. It’s a basic place in an okay location.

We came for one night and wanted a decent bed at a decent price. The queen bed was comfortable, the AC worked, and the rooms were clean, practical, and very clean. We didn’t use the Wi-Fi or TV. My room cost 16,000 tng, around 30 USD, and felt like good value. I’ve stayed in rooms over 1000 a night, and in places with broken beds and sand on the sheets, so this was a good deal for a clean, comfortable night’s sleep. Five Seasons is exactly as advertised. It’s not the Ritz, and anyone expecting that kind of place probably won’t enjoy it. It’s quaint and old-fashioned, tucked away, and in many ways feels like Kazakhstan. The staff try hard to help, and English works. As you’ll find in Almaty, buildings of four stories or less commonly don’t have elevators. I’ve stayed in rooms fit for a king, and in a dog’s room. One place was called the queen’s room because she had stayed there, and it had two levels with a staircase. This place isn’t like that. If star ratings included value for cost, I’d give it five.

The manager and staff are helpful, and having a kitchen for food and drinks is handy. Guests are allowed, which is one of the best things. The rooms are cozy, and the in-room heater is especially useful in winter. The only issue I had was that the bathtub wasn’t working properly.

My check-in was at 2:00 am, but it was easy since reception is open 24 hours. The staff were always helpful, and the rooms are heated. I had a spacious room with a private toilet for just 11,000 kzt a night. There’s also a shared kitchen. Great value, and I had an amazing stay.
