The manager spoke English and gave us helpful information about Almaty and places to visit, which we appreciated. We stayed eight days in a room for two and found the hostel very clean, bright, and comfortable. It's close to downtown, with a restaurant and big park nearby, along with everything else we needed. We enjoyed Almaty and its people!
The managers were kind and helpful, and the food and service were good. It was an enjoyable stay, and I'd come back for the breakfast and good times with the homies. The place is very affordable and close to downtown, maybe the cheapest around there.
There was cleaning every day, and the place felt simple and cozy. We stayed last week and liked how friendly and quiet the other residents were. Drinking and smoking aren't allowed on the premises, which I really appreciated since I wouldn't want to live beside drunk guests.
The staff were friendly, and you can order home-cooked meals. We spent three days at the Harmony Hostel and found it clean, cozy, and near the city center. For the low price, everything was just right. The train station is only two minutes away, and there are separate men's and women's restrooms.
There's no window or ventilation in the basement, and so many people rent long term that the place feels more like a dorm. The atmosphere was awful too, with swearing, indignation, and accusations. If you can't find a decent hostel, you could stay the night, but there may be consequences, fleas and things like that. There are much cheaper places as well.
