Dinner at 3 Nagas Hotel in Luang Prabang was delicious, with authentic Lao flavors, and the cocktails were beautifully made. It was a lovely way to wind down in the evening. As a solo female traveler, I also felt warmly welcomed. The location is great for walking around the old town, and the staff were kind, attentive, and always ready to help. At their sister property Sofitel Luang Prabang, I had a deeply relaxing spa treatment, went on a peaceful sunrise cruise on the Mekong, and joined a fun treasure hunt that taught me more about the city and its history. I had a wonderful, comfortable stay and would happily recommend it, especially to solo travelers.

The food was a highlight, genuinely delicious and carefully prepared. My room also had a cozy, elegant feel, with classic heritage character that suited the spirit of Luang Prabang. What made the stay especially memorable was the staff, whose warmth and thoughtful attention made me feel at home from the start. 3 Nagas Hotel Luang Prabang - MGallery Collection sits right in the heart of the Old Town, making it easy to explore while still feeling peaceful and intimate. It left a strong impression on me, and I'd love to return. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Luang Prabang.

The a-la-carte breakfast was a real highlight. Because the hotel is small, you can order as much as you like instead of choosing from a buffet. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious, easily among the best breakfasts in Luang Prabang. I also ate at both properties. MGallery's restaurant was good value with the Accor Explorer 30% discount. Sofitel was still pricier, at about 400-500 RMB per person even with the discount. Its Western food was excellent, but I wouldn't recommend the Chinese dishes, which weren't prepared by specialized Chinese chefs. We booked 5 rooms across most room types for 3 nights with a group. For a first visit, the location is hard to beat: the hotel occupies two restored historic two-storey buildings on opposite sides of the main tourist road in Luang Prabang's UNESCO World Heritage area. The morning alms-giving ceremony happens at the entrance, and the night market is a 5-minute walk away. There are only 15 keys. The upper floors have spacious Executive Suites with large private outdoor terraces and original wooden floors that creak gently. The rooms are well equipped and have a comfortable atmosphere, though some fixtures are aging. Shower pressure and temperature fluctuate, some showerheads are worn or malfunctioning, and metal bathroom fittings have begun to rust. Better maintenance and replacing consumable items would improve comfort. Staff were warm and attentive. During Lunar New Year, they arranged a fun red-envelope lucky draw. The same owner runs the nearby Sofitel Luang Prabang, and MGallery guests can use its gym and swimming pool, with a free scheduled shuttle between the hotels. A special mention to the long-serving driver who speaks Cantonese and Chinese. His insights into Luang Prabang's history and culture enriched our stay. Accor points for in-house dining charged to our room were not correctly awarded, so the hotel should check members' points posting. For location, heritage charm, and service, MGallery is ideal for first-time travelers to Luang Prabang. I hope to try its sister property, Sofitel Luang Prabang, on my next visit.

My only advice is to skip the Almsgiving ceremony between the hotel buildings. This sacred tradition has become extremely commercialised, with noisy tour groups, people taking photos, and opportunistic street vendors. The monks don't seem to like it, and it made us sad to see. I hope the government starts regulating the ceremony to prevent its exploitation for commercial gain. We loved our stay at this lovely boutique hotel. Staff were warm and welcoming, and the dark wooden features throughout gave it an authentic traditional Lao style. It's spread across three historic buildings, each with its own story. One used to serve ice cream to the king. Lunch and dinner feature authentic local food, and the bar is open day and night for cocktails and local snacks. Breakfast is à la carte, with local and international or Western options. I especially enjoyed the Khao Jee Pâté (Bánh Mì) and Lao Pho, Lao versions of Vietnamese dishes that deserve recognition in their own right. The hotel is twinned with the nearby Sofitel, so guests can use its restaurant, pool, and gym, and see the cute bunnies. A free shuttlebus runs between the locations.

The food was excellent and the setting was fantastic, and 3Nagas delivered on service and location. Our room, though, was subpar. The nightstand was a tiny cupboard set a foot below bed level, there were no blackout drapes (see photo) or bedside reading light, and the towel racks weren't adequate. The walls were paper thin, the AC was loud and probably needs servicing, and traffic noise meant we had to sleep with the earbuds provided. Next time I'd choose their sister hotel, Sofitel.
