PP Guesthouse LPB

We spent three nights here and would recommend it to anyone needing a place in Luang Prabang. The guesthouse was pleasant, though morning noise from around 7am often woke us, so bring earplugs. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the night market. Our room was roomy and well equipped, but the mattress felt like a spring was poking into us. We still slept reasonably well. The shower was the best we’ve had in Asia so far, with strong pressure and properly hot water. Breakfast was simple but tasty. The staff were very friendly and booked our Kuang Si Waterfalls trip and onward bus at prices much lower than elsewhere, with pickup right at the guesthouse.

The room was clean but worn, with a big bedroom and bed. The mattress felt like plywood, though, and the toilet seat was completely broken. Water pressure and hot water were both very good. Staff were polite, but it was hard to communicate much. I can see potential in PP guesthouse, and a few small fixes could make a real difference. One thing to know about renting a motorbike or scooter here: they hand it over with an empty tank, and you decide how much fuel to add. We later learned that’s common around Laos, though different from Thailand. We put in 3 liters because we weren’t sure how much we’d use for the waterfalls and around town, but used only 1 liter. When we returned it, they siphoned the leftover petrol out for the next customer, who gets an empty tank too. It felt like they were skimming off the top.

For a budget stay, it’s hard to beat: central, clean and comfortable, with sunny rooms, nice people, good wifi and a great breakfast. The power shower had hot water too. Just perfect!

The staff were lovely when we asked for advice, and they let us store our bags both on check-in and check-out days. Breakfast was a nice extra, and for the price I’d definitely recommend the hotel. The room was fine, though you could spot dirt or hairs if you looked closely. My mattress was a bit broken, but it didn’t affect my sleep or comfort. The showers were the best I’ve had in Asia so far.
