Villa Luang Sokxay

The family room has a balcony, and there are lots of bars and restaurants around the hotel. It’s close to D&T market. The location is convenient, the price is really cheap, and the staff are nice. The boss and driver were especially great, including driver Tong. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a convenient location.

We booked three nights, then had to change our travel plans a week before arriving and canceled the reservation. We were charged a huge fee for canceling, and when we eventually got to Luang Prabang a week later, we found we’d also been charged for the canceled nights. We went to the guesthouse and politely asked the owner if some of the charges could be refunded. He said he’d lost money and there was nothing we could do. This felt like a crooked business and wasn’t worth our time or money. There are plenty of credible guesthouses in Luang Prabang that deserve your support.

We ended up moving to Moon's House because this place was booked up. Honestly, Moon's was better, though about 50% more expensive. This guesthouse is still really good value for money in Luang Prabang, with a nice bathroom, friendly staff, and an inexpensive double room with air con.

We paid for five nights, then the next morning they told us we had to leave because the hotel was full, despite having told us the day before that it wasn’t. The man at the desk laughed, we had nowhere to go, and nobody offered to help. They kicked us out in the pouring rain. After years of traveling, I’ve never had an experience this bad. This place felt dishonest and sketchy. I wish I could give it zero stars. Avoid it and save your money.
