Charming Lao Hotel

The service was the best part. The staff were always smiling, and the manager spent two days helping with everything we needed, including getting us train tickets to the capital. We’re really grateful for the kindness. The hotel itself was beautiful and better than we expected, with large, comfortable, very clean rooms and all the amenities. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. There’s also a cafe with a lovely garden and good local and Western food.

We came for dinner after seeing good restaurant reviews. I haven’t stayed at the hotel, so I can’t comment on its rooms or hotel services. The place looked great, the ambiance was excellent, and the staff serving us were outstanding. Everything else was great too, but my tuna sandwich was low quality, with so little tuna it felt more like a tomato sandwich. I wouldn’t recommend it. We also ordered hot chocolate and a few Somersbys. Prices and taxes are high.

Getting into town is easy, though there’s a lot of traffic on the nearby roads, so rooms facing the street may be noisy. The room wasn’t spacious, but it was clean and had the necessary items shown in the photos. The breakfast set was good: one meal, fruit, coffee or tea, and juice. Check-in and check-out took a long time because communication with reception wasn’t smooth. There’s a well-organised cafe and restaurant on the hotel’s first floor.

There’s a nice garden with a pond where you can eat, and the coffee shop has a wide range of drinks. The latte wasn’t very hot, so we asked them to use hot milk. Breakfast was good, but service was slow, and they have a coffee machine. The rooms were clean, very nice and well maintained, probably the best hotel in Oudomxay. One heads-up: from around 5:30, local news plays over street speakers near front-facing rooms. The massage and spa is closed. I can recommend Red Cross massage and spa, about a 10-minute walk away.
