Sanctuary Pakbeng Lodge

The pool was spotless and refreshing, and the views of the Mekong from the rooms, restaurant, and pool are epic. It’s a short walk to town and the slowboat pier, and there’s a French wine list. The comfortable stay and all the essentials exceeded what I expected from a 3-star hotel. I think it’s excellent value for money.

The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the sunset view was beautiful after our 9 hour slow boat trip to Luang Prabang. The hotel is a little expensive compared with other places in pak beng, but I think it’s worth it. The rooms are lovely, and the service was excellent: they provided a free shuttle to and from the pier, and put together my breakfast to take away when I woke up late. There are a couple of things they could improve. Our bed had two twin mattresses pushed together instead of a queen, leaving an uncomfortable, stiff lump down the middle. At this price, I’d also expect the toilet and shower to be thoroughly cleaned before a guest arrives.

From the room on the upper part of the hotel, I had amazing views of the river and mountains. I stayed one night. The room, cleanliness, and standard amenities were good, as were breakfast and dinner. They had vegetarian and vegan options.

The river looks beautiful from the balcony, restaurant, and pool. The rooms are well maintained and probably among the best in this small town. Dinner was delicious, too, and they provide a free pickup from the slow boat.
