It’s a place to stop for the night, with a large terrace outside the room and views of the Mekong. The shower has hot water and the toilet is western. The guesthouse is very basic and moderately clean, though the linen was fine and the bed okay. Pak Bang seems to exist for the two tourist boats that arrive each day, mostly, and the touts meet the boats. Shops closest to the water start selling from 6.30am. Villa Sarika is the first guest house on the left as you walk up the hill from the water.

The rooms are simple and a bit noisy, and cleanliness was average. It’s the closest place to the port. There’s a nice terrace with a river view, especially lovely at sunrise and sunset.

Villa Sarika was a great find while passing through Pakbeng on the way along the Mekong. Accommodation here is expensive overall, but this place gave us what we needed: a clean, comfortable private room with a bathroom. The friendly family running it helped us out of a tricky situation while we were arranging onward travel. It’s also very conveniently placed for the jetty.

We paid 8€ for a double bed on arrival from the slowboat. Totally doable for one night. The only issue was the loose power outlets, but reception gave us an extension that worked.
