Savan Resorts

Savan Resort is a nice all-in-one spot, with everything you need in one area. It’s the only proper casino resort in this region, and even people from Thailand prefer coming here. They’re building a small commercial area and a golf course too, so it’s turning into a one-stop destination. Relaxed feel, worth checking out.

The free ride to the Laos checkpoint and across the Friendship Bridge to Thai immigration was a big plus. The hotel itself was very nice, with an excellent, comfortable room. I hadn’t realized it was a casino, and that gave me the wrong impression. Food let the place down badly. We ate from the buffet on our first night and everything was cold. At breakfast the next day, everything was cold again except the coffee. Really disappointing. The location also wasn’t great, down a very rough, bumpy road and nowhere near the city centre.

It’s all about money here, and the place encourages people to get hooked on gambling. A terrible place. Stay away from this area and be careful.

The staff were attentive and eager to help, and we liked it enough to extend our stay from one night to two. We arrived at 11am for an early check-in and were able to start using the facilities. Otto upgraded us to a Junior Suite, which I’d recommend. At 75 square metres it felt huge, with a nicely decorated and furnished entry area that doubles as a kitchenette, a lounge with a TV, and a separate bedroom and ensuite bathroom. Win at the front desk arranged a taxi and booked a restaurant on the Mekong River for us. We watched a beautiful sunset over the Thailand side of the river with a drink or two. Later we had a drink and played a few games in the casino. The breakfast buffet had plenty of Asian and Western food. The pool isn’t huge, but it’s nicely done and gets sun all day. It’s right by a bar and restaurant, so you can swim and have a refreshing glass of BeerLao. Thanks again to Otto, Win, and the rest of the staff for a wonderful stay. We’ll definitely come back.
