Central Hotel Vang Vieng

We left after one night because we didn’t feel safe staying there or leaving our things in the room. There was never anyone at reception, despite the claim of 24-hour reception and security, and both entrance doors were left open all night. The place looked more like a construction site than a hotel. The balcony door didn’t lock, and the room lock was so difficult to turn that it seemed like it might have been tampered with. I also found online reviews describing break-ins and stolen belongings, though the owner keeps changing the hotel’s name, apparently to get rid of reviews. When we checked out and explained why we were leaving, the receptionist laughed at us. You may not even see this review if the name changes again. Don’t stay here.

The rooms were clean and fairly spacious for an average price, and the free water and toiletries were a nice extra. The hotel is right in the city centre, and the staff speak enough English to communicate. I found the shared areas less clean, with dust easy to spot on the chairs and tables. The balconies are roomy too, but get completely wet when it rains. There isn’t a power outlet near the bed, which was inconvenient.

The front desk guy was direct and helpful, and there are tuk-tuk drivers waiting right beside the hotel. It’s a two-minute walk to 7/11, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Our room had AC, hot water, shampoo, bottled water, and a fridge. The price was good, with breakfast made to order and tours available. There’s a pool at the end of the hall, and you can use the one next door too.

We couldn’t stay beyond the first night and left early, then the staff refused to refund us when we explained why. The WiFi kept cutting out, and although the hotel is near town, the location was noisy. There wasn’t any toilet paper in our room. The bathroom was filthy: no hot water, and the shower head was loose instead of attached to the wall. Towels were torn and stained, the bathroom bin was grimy, and the fan was covered in dust. I don’t understand how this place has such a high rating. We were very disappointed.
