The beds were comfortable, the sheets smelled fresh, the AC worked well, and the location was great. Breakfast was decent, but didn't start until 8am. The room was tiny and had no window. Staff spoke very little English, so it was hard to explain problems. My pillows were too thick and firm and gave me a sore neck. The shower went cold after a few seconds, so I changed rooms the next day. In that room the water stayed warm for five minutes, then went cold too. The shower was awkwardly angled over the toilet and hurt my back. An elderly man there also made me really uncomfortable. He kept coming over to talk when I clearly didn't want to, then made broad generalizations about my nationality. For $20 a night, you can find much better value elsewhere.

The bed and linen were clean and comfortable, the AC was good, and the internet worked well. The shower was warm enough, though the water pressure was poor. Breakfast was just an egg and a bread roll, with no tea or coffee. There was no room service, kettle, or in-room tea and coffee, and only two small bottles of water for two days. The TV didn't work, there was no towel rack, and the sink was loose on the wall. The wall fan had mildew. It's an old-style hotel that needs a lot of work. I was very disappointed, though I guess I paid for what I got. 🤨😱☹️

The location is great, right at the end of the night market and very central. My room at Viengsavanh Guest House, sometimes called "ViengSaVanh Hotel", was basic but comfortable, with working AC, hot water, and functional bathroom facilities. I enjoyed my stay enough to add more nights. The reception team helped with train tickets, laundry, and suggestions for the area. Housekeeping wasn't included at my price, but I'm sure they would've helped with fresh towels and rubbish removal if I'd asked.

The guesthouse is in a good spot at the end of the Night Market, and market noise wasn't really an issue. The roosters and some kind of chicken breeding right by the guesthouse were a real problem, though. They're caged and screech day and night, every minute. Each morning at 6:45am there was loud Lao music and a speech in the street for 45 minutes. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep or rest, though you'll still hear the rooster. The room was okay, but the bed was hard and I could feel all the metal springs. The bathroom was the worst part: dirty sink water ran right onto my feet, and shower water stayed pooled for a long time. The drainage needs to be unblocked. Breakfast was okay with seven choices, but some days a few items, like fried rice or fruit salad, couldn't be ordered.

It's the cheapest place around, but dirty, so you get what you pay for. The bathroom light was broken and there was black mold throughout the whole bathroom. After I asked for a discount for the inconvenience, they took 10,000 kip off. I replaced the light myself the next day, and the AC stopped working halfway through my stay.
