The breakfast quality was a pleasant surprise, and the location is good. For the price, it’s okay for a night or two while travelling. My room was small and dated, though usable, and had an odd layout: a curtain beside the bed let light through. There were no slippers or hairdryer, and the WiFi didn’t work on our floor, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. There wasn’t soundproofing either, but that seems common in Laos.

Everything we needed for quick errands or changing money was within walking distance. The night market and popular evening food spots were close enough for an easy stroll too. Family Boutique Hotel has a comfortable atmosphere in a very convenient part of Vientiane, and I came away genuinely impressed with my stay.

The location made it easy to walk to the bus station, some tourist spots, and the main restaurant and bar area. I spent four nights here, using both a deluxe double room and a single room. They were clean and comfortable, and the deluxe room’s desk and chair worked well for getting online work done. The WiFi was good, the bed was very comfy, and the shower was nice. The staff were kind and friendly. I’d stay here again in Vientiane.

It wasn’t especially close to the night market or other attractions, and the room layout meant I had to walk all the way from the bed to the front door just to switch off the lights. The rest of the stay was frustrating too. The room had no hairdryer despite it being advertised, and a bad phone line meant I called reception almost ten times because they confused conditioner with shower gel. After walking to the desk myself, I finally found there was no hot water. It was cold season, at 11 at night. Imagine my blood pressure.

I slept well here: the rooms were quiet, with little light coming through the windows. The bed was firm but comfortable, and the pillows were soft. The bathroom was pretty decent, and I enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The staff were friendly, and the central location suited the things I wanted to do. Lovely place, and I’d stay again.
