Memory Hotel Vientiane

The hotel looked shabby, and there was mold between the shower tiles and on the hallway wall. We stayed two nights, but nobody cleaned our room or brought more toilet paper.

After we came back to the lobby a few hours later to catch our bus to Vang Vieng, which was good, I noticed someone had gone through my backpack. I don't think anything was missing, but it had definitely been opened and searched. Earlier that morning we'd left our bags there and paid the hotel for the trip. From what happened to me, and the other reviews here, I wouldn't feel this was a safe place to stay or leave your belongings.

The room we got had clean beds, but the place looked like it hadn't been renovated in a long time. There were leaks and mold, cobwebs on the bathroom door, and hardly any furniture, with no nightstands or anywhere to hang things. Breakfast was basic, just eggs and bread, which is what I'd expect at this kind of hotel. The location is central, close to plenty of good shops and the city's main hub. We had paid about 100,000 LAK extra for the “family room” because the listing on booking said it had three large beds. Other hotels nearby offered two large beds at about that price. When we arrived, staff said they didn't have any room like the one listed. They offered an immediate refund or the room we were given for the same price.

You can book train tickets, bus tickets, and taxis at the Memory Hotel booking office, either in person or through 12go.asia. Prices were fair, and it's also the meeting point for transport.
