The rooms were comfortable, fairly spacious, clean, and well equipped. Most things worked, though staff might not acknowledge or resolve Wi-Fi or safe-lock problems. With the windows and curtains shut, traffic was usually just background noise, even though the road is much busier than older photos suggest. The hotel dates from 2013-4. Inside, it has a consistent, tasteful early-20th-century French style, while the exterior is a rather understated 1960s Mediterranean take. It doesn't have a perceptible Laotian influence, and the building itself isn't French colonial. The restaurant only serves a simple European continental breakfast in the morning. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Even though they're said to speak English and German, Google Translate may help with communication. Download the Lao offline translation file before arriving.

The Thai Embassy is about a 15-minute walk away, which worked well for my visa. Staff were attentive, the rooms clean, and the bed linen and pillows were very good. The shower had hot water.

Be careful in the shower, the floor is slippery. The hotel is beside a very busy road, and there's a school next door, so it gets pretty noisy.

The bath in the room was lovely, and there was always reliable hot water. The beds were comfortable, everything was extremely clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple, but nice to have included in the price. I'd highly recommend it.

I liked the property's old-world charm and its quiet neighborhood, away from the noisy party district. But nearby restaurants close at 8 pm, and the hotel restaurant wasn't open. We managed to find a Western-style chicken fast-food place for dinner at 9 pm, then took a taxi to the main district the next evening. Breakfast was a buffet with a nice selection on the first morning, but limited and ordered from a menu on the second. The biggest concern came when we asked staff to order a taxi. They quoted us a price, but a private car took us and the driver demanded more at the destination. That was bad.
