InterContinental Mzaar Lebanon by IHG

As long-time clients of this hotel and the IHG group, it’s disappointing to see the experience fall behind the price. The location is easily the best in the area, and clearly helps keep the hotel successful, but the rising room rates haven’t been matched by improvements in service or accommodation. Some rooms are small, dated, poorly soundproofed, and not always cleaned as carefully as you’d expect. What may once have felt like rustic charm now comes across as worn. We’ve also had recurring trouble getting help by phone. Calls are answered late, replies take a while, and requests aren’t always understood or handled efficiently. That’s surprising for a property under the InterContinental name. It’s unfortunate to see a hotel in such a prestigious group age without the renovation and quality control needed to maintain five-star standards. When the cost keeps going up and the service doesn’t, the value just isn’t there. We hope management and IHG will take these concerns seriously and restore the level of quality this location deserves.

Maria made check-in smooth and rewarding, and Georges kept taking great care of us throughout the stay. Be sure to stop by the Boss pop-up to meet Antony and see the great collection. Staying here is a wonderful way to experience Faraya, in a wonderful location.

The snow-covered mountain view from our room was stunning, and reception was excellent when we arrived by taxi from Beirut. The hotel is calm and beautiful, with a lovely snowy atmosphere. Skiing was great on our second day when the weather cleared up, but the evenings and our first day felt long and quiet. It’s quite isolated, with little to do, no outdoor seating or snack options, and just one restaurant open 24/7 with the same menu. After skiing, it would have been nice to have something simple to eat or do.

The ski lift goes right from the hotel, and after skiing the indoor pool and spa are excellent. I had a reflexology session that was a real wow. Check-in was effortless, and my room was neat and tidy. The staff made the stay, though. There were smiles everywhere, and the people who helped us seemed genuinely happy to do it. George at the front desk is professional, generous, and great to talk with. And if Mariam answers when you call from your room, her energy feels like sunrise. At Mzaar, the GM and staff have raised the bar. I’d give the stay six stars if I could. What a place, and not your typical experience.
