The service is what really makes Sama Retreats stand out. Everyone seemed to know our names and was attentive to what we wanted, as long as it was reasonable. When I felt unwell after inhaling too much mosquito-repellent smoke, the whole team helped me recover that morning so I could enjoy the rest of my day and stay. The beach is glorious, with broad stretches of golden sand. There's a picturesque hill with a Buddhist temple to the left, where visitors should cover up, and a turtle hatchery three minutes' walk to the right where you can see turtles being rehabilitated and learn about conservation. The property is spacious and thoughtfully set into the jungle. Rooms are immaculate, clean and comfortable, with excellent coffee and tea and lovely bath products. The main pool is inviting and just the right temperature, while the natural pool is a visual masterpiece. This really is "barefoot luxury." If you're thinking about staying at Sama, I'd say book it. You won't regret it.

The people at SAMA were incredibly kind. Every single person working there made me feel cared for, and Fabian, the director, was a big part of that. He's smart, always smiling and helpful, and makes changes to spa appointments easy. Nothing seemed like too much trouble, and he clearly thinks about the guest experience. I booked a 9 day Ayuervedic wellness package after finding SAMA online. I usually compare places carefully, but somehow felt this was the one. It exceeded every expectation. My daily massages were extraordinary and left me feeling very peaceful. Chef Palinda paid close attention to my diet while making every meal delicious. Each day he also went out of his way to prepare a special lunch for me to take to the beach. It came packed as takeaway, fresh, warm and just right. My room had windows looking out onto the natural surroundings. It felt private, quiet, serene and comforting. The owners are conservationists, and the care given to the pathways, buildings and environment made the whole property feel like part of the treatment. I also saw the Ayurvedic doctor three times. She practices Chinese medicine and acupuncture too, and is a gifted, intelligent doctor who made a real difference during my week there. I hope to keep benefiting at home by following the way she suggested I eat. My time at SAMA was phenomenal, and I'd encourage anyone wanting a personal, different experience to go.

We loved the yoga lessons and massages, and the food was amazing. The chef came by each day to ask what we wanted and made excellent local or Western dishes to order. The setting feels like a little paradise, with lots of space, a beautiful beach, a great pool and a natural pool. The rooms are stunning and sit so naturally among the surroundings. People cleaned leaves and other debris from the property every day, and all the facilities were well maintained. My stay here was simply lovely.

The staff deserve the highest praise: kind, professional, attentive and genuine, and clearly proud of what they do. We felt exceptionally well looked after from beginning to end. Meals were fantastic, full of flavor and prepared with care. The chef was happy to adjust them to our preferences, which felt especially thoughtful. The facilities were beautiful and charming, with careful attention to detail and a comfortable atmosphere. The stay surpassed all our expectations. We couldn't have asked for better and would gladly recommend this place to anyone looking for warmth, quality and genuine hospitality. We both look forward to coming back.
