This is a family run place with Rauf and his father, and he’ll help with anything you need while you’re there. I booked two nights and stayed a whole week. The Sri Lankan food was amazing, and the breakfast was the best I had while travelling. It’s just a 30 second walk from the beach, where I watched the sunrise every morning. There aren’t hot showers, but it’s so hot in Arugam Bay that hot water is rare in hostels and guest houses anyway. Cold water was fine and refreshing. I’d happily stay here again.

They let someone else have the room we’d originally booked, but sorted things out by giving us a bigger one for the same price. The guy was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice, and they let us leave our bags there while we went surfing after checkout.

We decided we couldn’t stay after seeing how rundown and filthy the place was. It had no hot water, concrete floors, and no ceiling. We hadn’t realised how poor the condition was from the internet booking, which we made during high season. The man running the place demanded full payment for the whole booking. After more than an hour of arguing, he reduced it to $150 for three nights, and wouldn’t even let us stay one night in case finding another place was difficult. We wanted to leave as soon as we could. We quickly found a great, clean hotel with AC and two showers for the same $50 per night.

A small, quiet, reasonably priced place for Uruguay. The owner was very pleasant and glad to help with information or recommendations. Breakfast was good and plentiful.
