Star Rest Hotel

I don't usually post negative reviews of hotels or restaurants, but this so-called 3-star hotel made me make an exception. The rooms were filthy and disgusting, the bathroom smelled bad, the AC didn't work properly, and the kitchen was dirty. This place felt like a joke, nothing like a hotel. At first the manager, Ansa, seemed nice, but I don't think he's trustworthy. Halfway through my stay, he kicked me out because of a problem with BookSurfCamps, where I'd booked my surfholiday. It turned out he'd double-booked and needed someone to leave. The surf lessons he and his colleagues offered were poor. Even people in the area told me they were the worst. I also believe the 5-star reviews here are fake and written by his friends and family. My advice is to stay far away.

Star Rest Surf Camp made for a wonderful getaway. The team treated us like family, and the surf coaches were skilled, encouraging, and fun. Everything was spotless and peaceful, right by the beach. The food was fresh and tasty each day, and I can't wait to return. Definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Arugam Bay. The surf sessions were a dream, with expert guidance and great waves. Everyone was kind, attentive, and smiling, and the rooms were neat and super comfortable. Loved the laid-back atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, a lovely place for surfers and beach lovers.

The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. Thanks to the team, I got to see more of Sri Lanka than I bargained for. It's quite amazing to be right opposite a place where elephants are spotted, and the surf instruction helped me improve my surfing. Thank you, team Star Rest 🥰💫

The staff were always looking after me and made the place feel comfortable for a woman travelling alone. I used the free kitchen and laundry, too. Such a helpful crew. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
