Club Bentota

The restaurant was the bright spot: the food was delicious and well prepared. Thanks to Chef Piyal for the great flavors, and to Marori (Restaurant Manager) for warm, excellent service. That dining experience made our visit more enjoyable. The rest of our stay at Club Bentota was very disappointing. Water supply was unreliable, the rooms were unclean, and the damaged upstairs wooden floor felt unsafe. The sheets and even toilet rolls seemed to have been used before, which was unacceptable. A bad smell from the toilet made the room uncomfortable, and management did little to help resolve the problems. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The beach access and island setting are the main draws, and the property has attractive paths and wooden walkways. Getting there depends on a boat that runs on a timetable, though ours came about 15 minutes late. The room was huge, perhaps meant for four, but our stay itself was poor. It was dim and untidy, with sticky coffee tables and dirty bathrooms. The toilet and bathroom smelled bad, had poor plumbing and no ventilation, and the fittings were broken. There was no hot water, the water was salty, and the toilet flush failed again after a plumber repaired it. I didn't feel safe walking to the poorly lit bathroom at night. Staff didn't seem proactive, and the pool was dirty. The food was just okay. Very few vegetarian dishes, including local food, were tasty. The chef made good kothu on request, and we got by with rice and sambhal. This seems better for a day visit than an overnight stay. It's a prime location with a nice setup, and a little work could make it one of the best around.

Sajith looked after us so attentively, checking that we were comfortable and being friendly throughout. We spent one night here and left feeling really relaxed. The beach was beautiful, and we enjoyed the pool too. Highly recommend.

The Theodore team made our honeymoon feel special from the minute we arrived. Everyone was kind, attentive, and ready to help, and all the little things were handled with care. Our room was clean and cozy, just right for a romantic break. We also loved the peaceful atmosphere, tasty food, and service. Even with a 3-star rating, the experience felt 5-star to us. Thank you to the whole Theodore team for such a warm, homely, heart-touching stay. We'd gladly recommend the hotel.
